Dealing with GUSTAR

GUSTAR (is pleasing) is a tricky one I often get wrong. Its REFLEXIVE VERB, so technically its should be GUSTARSE

The thing to remember is that in Spanish they use the method of

TO ME > IS PLEASING > THE THING
ME > GUSTA > LA COSA

So we have to remember that Gustar is pleasing to either MYSELF, YOURSELF, THEMSELVES.

It can get tricky when it comes to knowing if the subject is plural or not. The good news is that you can only use GUSTA OR GUSTAN, it all depends if you talking about an object that is plural.

Only pluralise (add a N) when the object being liked is plural, NOT when the subject (themselves) are plural

For example:
A los estudiantes les GUSTA el maestro. - here you use GUSTA because of "el maestro", is singular.
Me gustan las bicicletas - I like bicycles (Bicycle are pleasing to me.) - GUSTAN because LOS BICICLETAS is plural

MORE PLURALS:
Nos gustan los huevos.
We like eggs.
(Eggs are pleasing to us.
)
Les gustan las papas fritas.
They like French fries.
(French fries are pleasing to them.)
SINGULARS
Te gusta pizza.
You like pizza.
(Pizza is pleasing to you.)
Le gusta pizza.
She likes pizza.
(Pizza is pleasing to her.)
Nos gusta pizza.
We like pizza.
(Pizza is pleasing to us.)
Les gusta pizza.
They like pizza.
(Pizza is pleasing to them.)
